Doug Young is an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist living in the Bay Area, who composes and arranges for mostly solo guitar. His recordings include Closing Time, Laurel Mill, and Forever Christmas include some of the tunes seen on this channel, as well as many singles available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services. He has also released DUETS with Teja Gerken. Doug is a Mel Bay author, with two books, Understanding DADGAD, and Fiddle Tunes in DADGAD, as well as his self-published books A DADGAD Christmas, Hymns for Fingerstyle Guitar, and Christmas Carols for Fingerstyle Guitar, all available on Amazon.com. He is also a contributing editor for Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and teaches a course on Alternate Tunings on Peghead Nation.

Beautiful rendition. I'm not a fan of the thumb pick though - it creates a sliding or rubbing sound before the sound of the note, instead of a clean sound when the string plucked by a thumb with a thumbnail.
Everyone has different taste, but for me the thumbpick works and sounds far better than my thumb ever does. Just my personal choice, everyone has to pick what works for them.

@@DougYoungGuitar and you never catch yourself singing along?? I don't need a nice voice. But this song (rather a hymn like Amazing Grace) seems incomplete to me w/o a separate melody. You can still solo ad lib after 1-2 verses ;)
Not really. The voice is one instrument of many. I prefer to play instrumental guitar. I am playing the melody, not just an "ad lib". Perhaps you have not encountered fingerstyle guitar, or classical guitar before? With this approach, the guitarist is the whole band, playing melody, bass, harmony, etc. No vocal necessary. I understand that vocal music dominates the pop music world, but there is a lot of music that does not involve singing. That is where my interest lies.

Hey Doug.great video,great guitar sound and idea.very creative.i have one question for you.i know you are using passive pickup and mic to your guitar output,but do you think would it be possible to rewire preamp of active pickup together with another active or passive device together on trs to get stereo output?i know there is active preamps that can combine muliple sound sources,but you can only blend them to mono output and not get a stereo.stereo source only reach guitar preamp and not guitar output.
This is possible, it just depends on the system(s) involved. There are pickups that support this directly, like the DTar pickup, which has a 2nd channel in stereo. Or the Schatten preamp that supports a 2nd channel and stereo. Some can be modified easily, like the Baggs Anthem (full version), where you can just replace the end pin jack with a TRS version. It's easiest to combine a 2nd passive system, things get tricky if you have to support 2 active systems, figuring out how to have both activated when you plugin, whether you can power both off the same battery, and so on.. Of course you can also always have 2 endpin jacks for separate systems.
